BGBB – We Were Just Talking About This

There are no shortage of nail salons in New York City, still, Karla Carrington thought something was missing.

“I couldn’t believe how much exposure [to chemicals] I was giving myself when I was getting acrylics,” she said.

So when Carrington decided to open her own nail bar not far from her Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn home, she knew she wanted it to be free of harsh chemicals, toxins, and product laden with carcinogens.

Enter the Nail Belle, Carrington’s newly opened salon that offers organic scrubs, and nail polishes that are free of nasty agents like formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate and toluene. It also thrust Carrington in the growing ranks of Black-owned salon and spa owners.

The reason Carrington decided to create a more holistic nail spa was simple, she takes her health seriously.

“If it [the salon] was going to be a place where I was going to spend any amount of time, it had to be safe for me and anyone who was going to be a part of it,” she told DNAinfo.com.
“There’s nothing close to home that really upheld the standard of cleanliness and service. So I said, ‘Build it and they will come,’” she explained.

Carrington hopes the Nail Belle’s mission, to provide “clients with exceptional service and a memorable experience each and every time,” while keeping Mother Earth safe will be the winning formula for her business.
